About this wine
Character
A dry Pinot Noir with pull and grip, whose structure doesn't rely on weight. At 13.0% vol., the wine stays agile, the tannin is present, the core earthy and composed. A red wine built for the long haul, one that already speaks with clarity and precision.
Terroir and origin
The vineyard La Rue au Port belongs to the Pommard appellation in the Côte de Beaune, Burgundy. The soils there are deep, iron-rich, made up of limestone and clay. The parcel's low-lying position shows in the wine as juicy, accessible tannin.
Grape variety and vinification
A pure Pinot Noir. Pierre-Henri Rougeot intervenes as little as possible in the cellar and ages the wine in used oak barrels, which give precedence to the fruit and the soil's minerality rather than contributing oak spice.
On the palate
Dense and firm, with ripe cherry and dark forest berries, alongside earthy, mineral notes and a fine spice. A fresh line of acidity keeps the fruit in motion, and the finish lingers long on the fruit.
Food pairings
With braised beef cheek, bœuf bourguignon, roast saddle of venison or rosy roast leg of lamb. Also pairs well with porcini risotto, aged Comté and robust hard cheese.
Special features
The colour is a deep, glossy ruby red. 750 ml, dry, 13.0% vol.
