About this wine

Character

A Pinot Noir of cool precision, as Domaine Hubert Lignier has shaped it for years: clearly defined, finely built, geared toward length and clarity. The designation "Vieilles Vignes" reflects the estate's old vines, while the magnum format offers greater volume and, with it, time.

Terroir and origin

Morey-Saint-Denis lies in the Côte de Nuits, and the Lignier family has cultivated Pinot Noir there since the 1880s. Jacques Lignier bought parcels back then that phylloxera had devalued, and his son Jules patiently replanted them. In 1973, Hubert Lignier began bottling the wines himself instead of selling them off in bulk. Today, Laurent Lignier runs the estate in its fifth generation.

Grape variety and vinification

Pure Pinot Noir. Since 2007 the estate has worked without synthetic products in the vineyard, with organic certification following in 2019. The cellar acquired in 2008 in Morey operates entirely by gravity, and no pump touches the wine from crushing to bottling. Long, cool macerations precede fermentation; the proportion of whole clusters has grown over the years, while the share of new oak has been deliberately reduced and spread across four coopers so that no single barrel dominates the wine's character.

On the palate

Ruby red with a cherry-red core. On the nose, red cherry, raspberry and strawberry, followed by violet, delicate spices and forest floor. Silky texture, vibrant acidity, fine-grained tannin, mineral depth and a long finish. 13.0% vol., dry.

Food pairing

Duck breast with cherry sauce, roasted veal fillet, saddle of venison, as well as coq au vin and bœuf bourguignon. To finish, aged Comté or Époisses.
