About this wine
Character
A Blaufränkisch that draws its power from freshness rather than sheer weight. In the glass, garnet red with violet reflections and a remarkably youthful appearance. The nose is dense yet fresh: blueberries, elderberry, liquorice, peat and a hint of coffee, complemented by vibrant salty minerality and cool depth.
Terroir and Origin
The grapes thrive in Zagersdorf in Burgenland on approximately 60-year-old vines. Jagini is the project through which Roland Velich and Hannes Schuster preserved the village's last remaining old-vine Blaufränkisch plots.
Grape Variety and Vinification
Single-varietal Blaufränkisch, spontaneously fermented and subsequently aged for four years in wooden casks. Dry style, 13.0% ABV.
On the Palate
Polished structure and vibrant freshness. The tannins feel silky, the fruit remains exceedingly juicy, and the finish is long, inspiring pure drinking pleasure. A wine that dances with elegance.
Food Pairings
It can be enjoyed on its own as a soloist and pairs equally well with aromatic, finesse-driven cuisine.
Special Features
In 2001, Roland Velich forged his own path with Moric, pursuing Burgundian elegance in Burgenland while others leaned toward opulence and heavy oak. In the cellar, this translates to radical restraint; in the vineyards, biodynamic farming allows the vines to express their terroir unfiltered. In 2023, Falstaff named him Winemaker of the Year.
