About this wine

Character

A red wine from the Priorat that never mistakes concentration for power: cool, lively, with earthy dark nuances and fine herbal spice. Its 13.5% vol. and dry-style ageing keep it lean without sacrificing depth.

Terroir and origin

Mas d'en Caçador is one of the estate's most privileged sites: north-facing, on pure slate, with vines that are in part over a hundred years old. Ester Nin and Carles Ortiz farm their steep plots around Porrera up to 700 metres in altitude, among the highest in the Priorat. The llicorella slopes, the region's black slate, allow no machinery; ploughing is done with mules, something no one in Porrera had done since the 1960s.

Grape variety and vinification

Grenache and Carignan make up the blend. The estate's wines ferment spontaneously and age in foudres, demi-muids or amphorae; bottling takes place without fining or filtration.

On the palate

Dark cherry and blackberry, violet and thyme, underscored by the earthy minerality of slate. The tannin is fine-grained, the acidity carries the wine, and the finish stays spicy and cool.

Special features

"Biodynamic since day one" appears on every cork from Familia Nin Ortiz. The estate is one of the few Spanish members of La Renaissance des Appellations, the association of biodynamic producers founded by Nicolas Joly. Since their first joint vintage in 2008, Ester Nin and Carles Ortiz have worked according to strict biodynamic principles.
