About this wine
Character
A white wine that seems to manage almost without fruit: garrigue and pine grove, thyme, sage and rosemary define the nose, more dried than fresh. Pure and precise, almond blossom and freshly chopped almonds join in, followed by bright, tentative mirabelle, pear and quince, which turn progressively more yellow before giving way to persimmon. Turmeric and cubeb pepper add spice, while grated fennel and artichoke lend a vegetal note.
Terroir and origin
The vines grow on the schist slopes of Porrera, facing southeast to southwest. Ester Nin and Carles Ortiz farm their steep plots up to 700 meters in altitude according to strict biodynamic principles; on the black Llicorella schist, mules plough where no machine can reach.
Grape variety and vinification
White Carignan, a rarity in the Priorat: 26-year-old vines on 0.9 hectares, complemented by four-year-old vines on 0.73 hectares. Aging takes place 70 percent in used barrels and 30 percent in concrete eggs, with temperature control. Fermentation occurs spontaneously; the wine is neither fined nor filtered.
On the palate
Purist, linear and chalky. The acidity remains moderate and well-judged, leaving room for mineral clarity. The fruit builds only slowly, carried by a broad, dense and warming structure that shows both elegance and generosity. The finish stays true to this purist, Mediterranean style.
Distinctive features
Every cork reads "Biodynamic since day one." Familia Nin Ortiz is one of the few Spanish estates in the Renaissance des Appellations, the association of top biodynamic producers founded by Nicolas Joly. The Planetes Blanc, made from the rare Cariñena Blanca, ranks among Spain's most distinctive white wines.
