About this wine
Character
A dry white wine from Catalonia that favors freshness over power. At 12.5% Vol., the Selma 2020 stays lean and lively without losing depth. Ester Nin and Carles Ortiz belong to that generation in Priorat which shifted the focus from concentration and extraction toward freshness, elegance and terroir expression. It is precisely this signature that the wine carries.
Terroir and origin
The family's vineyards lie on steep slopes around Porrera, up to 700 meters in altitude, among the highest in Priorat. The soil consists of llicorella, the region's black slate. Machines have no place on these slopes: Carles Ortiz plows with mules, a method no one in Porrera had practiced since the 1960s. The estate is farmed according to strict biodynamic principles.
Grape variety and vinification
A cuvée of Chenin Blanc, Roussanne and Marsanne. The estate's wines ferment spontaneously in foudres, demi-muids or amphorae; they are neither fined nor filtered. The result is a white wine that shows its origin unfiltered, favoring texture over upfront fruit.
On the palate
Straw yellow with golden reflections in the glass, with aromas of yellow apple and dried herbs over a cool slate note. The palate entry is silky, the acidity finely drawn and structuring, the finish long and earthy-mineral. A wine with drive and energy that retains depth despite all its clarity.
Special features
"Biodynamic since day one" is printed on every cork from the estate. Familia Nin Ortiz is also a member of La Renaissance des Appellations, the association of biodynamic producers founded by Nicolas Joly.
