About this wine
Character
The Odyssée VdF 2020 is a single-varietal Pinot Noir from Guillaume Sorbe, grown in Reuilly on the Loire. The colour already hints at where this wine is headed: pale, translucent cherry red with distinct violet highlights. This is a wine of finesse and elegance, whose impact comes not from power but from clarity and tension.
Terroir and origin
The fruit comes from parcels in Reuilly. The vines grow mainly on clay-limestone soils, alongside subsoils of flint and red sand. This mix shapes the wine's cool, upright character.
Grape variety and vinification
Guillaume Sorbe ferments the whole clusters spontaneously, extracting as little as possible. The wine is then aged for three years in used 400- and 600-litre barrels. 13.0% vol., vinified dry.
On the palate
The nose offers small red berries, sour cherries, a touch of rosehip and cassis; with air, pale tobacco, tree bark, leather and delicate pepper emerge. On the palate, the red fruit returns, underpinned by fine spice notes. The tannins are finely woven, lending a piquant grip while the presence remains elegant.
Food pairings
Quail with Puy lentils and beetroot, pan-fried pork medallions with rosehip-cherry vinegar butter sauce and Camargue rice, as well as baked Brie de Meaux with caramelised onions and pistachios.
Special features
Since the 2018 vintage, the Odyssée has been declared as Vin de France. Decanting and serving in large glasses pay off: oxygen lets this Pinot Noir gain even more.
