Planetes Blanc 2022

The Planetes Blanc 2022 is a dry white wine from Priorat that draws its impact from coolness and tension rather than power. 13.0% ABV carries a lean body; the acidity remains present right through to the saline finish.

The vines grow in the steep vineyards around Porrera, at altitudes of up to 700 metres, among the highest vineyards in Priorat. The soil is Llicorella, the region's black slate, which lends the wine its cool mineral signature. Ester Nin and Carles Ortiz have farmed their plots according to strict biodynamic principles since their first shared vintage in 2008. Where no tractor can climb, mules pull the plough, a practice no one in Porrera had used since the 1960s.

The wine is based on Cariñena Blanca, the white mutation of Carignan and a rarity in Spain. It contributes taut acidity, citrus notes and clear structure. Fermentation happens spontaneously in foudres, demi-muids or amphorae, and the wine is bottled without fining or filtration.

Straw yellow with golden reflections in the glass, with white blossom, ripe apple and lemon zest on the nose, alongside fennel and fine herbs over a cool slate minerality. The palate opens dry and juicy, the texture silky, the finish long and saline.

Pairs well with grilled fish with herb oil, goat's cheese on honey-fig bread and seafood paella.

Familia Nin Ortiz is one of the few Spanish estates in the association La Renaissance des Appellations. The Planetes Blanc is regarded as one of Spain's most distinctive white wines.
