About this wine

Character

A Vernatsch built for drinkability rather than power. Bright fruit, precise acidity, 12.0 % vol.: the Fuori Serie MMXV sits outside the regular range and shows Martin Gojer's work at its most refined and pared-back.

Terroir and origin

Pranzegg is located above Bolzano in South Tyrol. The sites on the Kohlerer Berg and the Ritten face northwest, are shaded by forest and swept by cool downslope winds, keeping the nights cool. The volcanic soils consist of porphyry, basalt and granite — the source of the acid backbone that carries this wine.

Grape variety and vinification

Vernatsch from old pergola-trained vines that Martin Gojer has deliberately preserved: this training system shades the soil and delivers ripeness without over-ripeness. On these steep sites much of the work is done by hand, as the terraces are too narrow for machinery. In the cellar everything ferments spontaneously with wild yeasts, and ageing takes place in concrete tanks and used oak and chestnut barrels, often two to three years on full lees. No fining, no filtration, only a minimal dose of sulphur before bottling.

On the palate

Pale ruby red with cherry-red highlights. On the nose, red cherry, raspberry and violet, alongside herbal spice and damp earth. Light-footed, with vibrant acidity and silky tannins, the finish reveals wild cherry and spice.

Distinctive features

Since 2009, Martin and Marion have farmed just under four hectares biodynamically; Martin Gojer makes the preparations himself, with no synthetic plant protection or chemical fertilisers whatsoever. Eight Ouessant sheep graze beneath the pergola rows, replacing chemical weed control. Bottled in 1500 ml magnums.
