About this wine
Character
A cool, delicately aromatic Sauvignon Blanc of polished precision. The nose remains clear and restrained: verbena, mint, lemon balm, and sage, joined by lemon and lime zest, a touch of grapefruit, cassis, and gooseberry. Floating above is a very fine touch of reduction reminiscent of drifting smoke.
Terroir and Origin
The single vineyard Ried Alter Kranachberg encompasses the historic heart of the Kranachberg and is situated on an open hilltop at an altitude of 450 metres. The site faces south and reaches a slope gradient of up to 80 percent. The soil consists of a conglomerate of alpine silica gravel with limestone in the subsoil, while the topsoil is dominated by quartz sands.
Grape Variety and Vinification
Sauvignon Blanc, the variety with which Willi and Andrea Sattler have defined the winery in Gamlitz since the 1980s. The wine fermented spontaneously down to 1.1 g/l residual sugar with 5.6 g/l acidity, followed by 24 months of lees ageing in stainless steel. 13.5% ABV, dry.
On the Palate
A juicy opening featuring green mango, green plums, some white peach, starfruit, and white berries, accompanied by green herbs such as lemon balm, sage, and a hint of tarragon. Beneath lies a grippy texture with vibrant acidity that carries through to the long finish, where savoury preserved lemon ensures a mouthwatering, dynamic drinking flow.
Special Features
A Grosse STK Lage. The two years of lees ageing in stainless steel lend the wine texture without obscuring its fruit and minerality. Bottled by the family-owned winery Sattlerhof in Sernau, Gamlitz, under the organic control number AT-BIO-402.
