About this wine
Character
A Sauvignon Blanc from a great vintage: ripe and juicy, yet lean and full of finesse. The style is classic, elegant, and noble; the volume is substantial, as is the depth. Vinified dry, 13.5% ABV.
Terroir and Origin
The Ried Kranachberg extends between Gamlitz and Leutschach in Southern Styria and is planted primarily with Sauvignon Blanc. The vines are situated at 400 to 500 metres altitude and root in calcareous quartz sands with light mica, manganese, and iron. Warm days and cool nights prolong aromatic ripening; the slopes of Sattlerhof around Gamlitz reach gradients of up to 70 percent, forcing the roots deep into the ground.
Grape Variety and Vinification
Fully ripe grapes underwent 12 to 16 hours of skin contact, followed by spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel tanks down to 1.1 g/l residual sugar and 6.4 g/l acidity. The wine subsequently matured for 18 months on the fine lees, lending it texture without masking the fruit.
On the Palate
The nose reveals ripe pear, mango, a touch of papaya, and yellow kiwi, alongside ripe lemon and orange, herbs, smoke, and crushed stone. The palate shows white-fleshed fruit, stony minerality, and herbal spice, with fine grip and vibrant acidity. A taut, focused wine with drive whose intensity lingers for minutes.
Distinctive Features
In the cellar, the Sattler family works with minimal intervention: hand-harvesting, gentle pressing, spontaneous fermentation. Willi and Andrea Sattler have been developing the winery since the 1980s. Certified organic, bottled by Familienweingut Sattlerhof GmbH in Gamlitz (AT-BIO-402).
