About this wine
Character
A Pinot Blanc (Weissburgunder) from Southern Styria that has undergone six years of maturation, gaining finesse without losing any of its tension. The nose feels sensuous and seamlessly integrated: no component sticks out, everything harmonises in an elegant manner. In the glass, it shines in a pale, almost platinum-hued straw yellow.
Terroir and Origin
The monopole site Ried Pfarrweingarten is situated at an elevation of 380 metres, a sheltered southern basin site featuring steep slopes. The subsoil consists of shell and coral limestone. Sattlerhof, under the guidance of Willi and Andrea Sattler, cultivates its vineyards around Gamlitz with meticulous care, and the steep slopes compel the vines to drive their roots deep into the ground.
Grape Variety and Vinification
100 percent Pinot Blanc (Weissburgunder) from the site's old vines, harvested as fully ripe grapes. Fermented to 1.1 g/l residual sugar with 5.3 g/l acidity, matured in small wooden casks, spending 18 months on the lees. In the cellar, the Sattler family adheres to a philosophy of minimal intervention; oak is employed to accentuate fruit and minerality, not to mask them. 13.0% ABV, dry.
On the Palate
Here, the wine reveals more power and temperament than on the nose. The texture is creamy, the acidity ripe yet clear and precise, underpinned by a fine minerality. Accompanying this are citrus notes, pome fruit, a touch of salinity and a hint of candied lemon peel. Preceded on the nose by ripe pears, white currants and limequats, along with lanolin, finest blossom honey, butter fudge and white nougat.
Special Attributes
A monopole site, old vines and limestone-rich subsoils converge here with extended lees aging. Bottled by the family-run winery Sattlerhof in Gamlitz, certified organic under AT-BIO-402.
