About this wine

Character

A coolly delineated, fragrant Sauvignon Blanc from Southern Styria, whose aromatics are led by alpine herbs and lime zest. Lively and fresh, without heaviness, vinified dry at 12.5% ABV.

Terroir and Origin

The grapes originate from the historic Ried Sernauberg, a south-east-facing basin site with extreme steep slopes of up to 90 percent. The soil consists of fine quartz sands intermixed with mica. The wine draws its salty minerality and cool tone from the slope gradient and lean subsoil.

Grape Variety and Vinification

Single-varietal Sauvignon Blanc from approximately 30-year-old vines. The fully ripe grapes fermented spontaneously, followed by 24 months of aging on the lees in stainless steel. This prolonged lees aging provides texture without compromising freshness. 1.1 g/l residual sugar is balanced by 6.4 g/l acidity.

On the Palate

Cool and juicy, driven by an energetic, agile acidity and a salty minerality. The aromatics remain centered on herbs and citrus zest, accompanied by preserved lemons, stinging nettle, green kiwi, and green asparagus. The texture shows a chalky feel, and the finish remains vibrant.

Special Features

The wine is classified as an Erste STK Lage. The family-run Sattlerhof winery in Gamlitz is managed by Willi and Andrea Sattler and operates in the cellar according to the principle of minimal intervention: hand harvesting, gentle pressing, spontaneous fermentation. The bottling is certified organic, control code AT-BIO-402.
