About this wine
Character
The Trispol Negre IGP 2024 is a slender, dry red wine from Mesquida Mora on Mallorca. At 11.5% ABV it stays light-footed, the colour transparent ruby red, the structure soft and carried by lively acidity. The name points to a foundation: Trispol means "soil" in Catalan — exactly what Bàrbara Mesquida Mora lacked when she started her own project in 2012.
Terroir and origin
Mesquida Mora farms 20 hectares on Mallorca, with the winery based in Porreres. Bàrbara Mesquida Mora had previously run her great-grandfather's family estate. All work follows the lunar calendar, using biodynamic composts and medicinal plant preparations; over 100 fruit trees have been planted to boost biodiversity.
Grape variety and vinification
Syrah, Callet and Mourvèdre make up the cuvée. Callet, the native variety central to Mesquida Mora's work, lends bright fruit and finesse, while Syrah and Mourvèdre add spice and backbone. In the cellar, the wine ferments spontaneously with wild yeasts, slowly and without haste, with minimal sulphur and no fining.
On the palate
A juicy opening of ripe blackberries and cherries, joined by Mediterranean herbs and fine spice. The tannins stay soft, the acidity keeps the fruit lively, and the finish is easy-drinking and dry.
Food pairing
Grilled vegetables, white meat such as veal, chicken paella, Mediterranean tapas or Pa amb oli with sobrassada. Its freshness also suits young cheese.
Highlights
Demeter-certified since 2007, one of the first biodynamic wineries in Spain.
