About this wine
Character
The Altrovino Costa Toscana IGP 2023 combines dense fruit with a streak of freshness, remaining approachable despite its concentration. Young, it comes across as powerful and energetic, with the 14.5% vol. taking a back seat to structure and juiciness.
Terroir and origin
The vines grow near Riparbella, eight kilometres north of Bolgheri and the same distance from the Tuscan coast, in a natural amphitheatre at 250 to 300 metres above sea level. Maritime influence and a continental climate meet here, giving the grapes both ripeness and tension. The estate farms twelve hectares, Demeter-certified since 2004, without any chemical substances.
Grape variety and vinification
Cabernet Franc and Merlot make up the blend: the Cabernet Franc contributes structure and herbal spice, the Merlot richness and soft tannin. In the cellar, Duemani works with amphora, cement and terracotta, intervening as little as possible. The wine is neither fined nor filtered, which benefits its stability and ageing potential.
On the palate
Blackcurrant, ripe plum and dark forest berries lead, followed by tobacco, dried herbs and fine spice. The body is full, the tannin velvety and well-defined, the finish long.
Food pairings
Braised beef, wild boar goulash and leg of lamb with Mediterranean herbs, as well as bistecca alla fiorentina or mature pecorino.
Special features
Elena Celli and Luca D'Attoma founded Duemani in 2000, and the estate has been Demeter-certified since 2004. Annual production stands at 45,000 bottles. Since 2023, Duemani has been part of Le Tenute del Leone Alato, with D'Attoma remaining involved as a consultant.
