About this wine

Character

A Tuscan-inflected Syrah: variety and provenance carry equal weight in the glass. Deep purple-red with violet reflections and a black core. On the nose, black cherries and red Kampot pepper, joined by balsamic notes, bay leaf, cherry confit and a subtle herbal spice.

Terroir and origin

Duemani lies near Riparbella, eight kilometres north of Bolgheri and the same distance from the Tuscan coast, on an amphitheatre-shaped site at 250 to 300 metres altitude. Here, maritime influence meets a continental climate. Elena Celli and Luca D'Attoma, one of Italy's most celebrated winemakers, founded the estate in 2000; the twelve hectares have been Demeter-certified since 2004.

Grape variety and vinification

Single-varietal Syrah from biodynamic farming without chemical inputs. In the cellar, the estate works with amphorae, cement and terracotta; the wines are neither fined nor filtered. Decant before pouring, and give it room in large Burgundy glasses. 14.0% vol., dry.

On the palate

The texture is fine-knit and dense, velvety in its sheen. Rich fruit, opulent tannins and a long sweeping arc of acidity give this wine everything it needs for many years of bottle ageing; minerality, extract and freshness are its cornerstones. Thanks to this structure, it already drinks with pleasure in its youth.

Food pairing recommendations

With wild boar ragout with pappardelle, with a sweet-and-sour monkfish roast with baby turnips and red wine butter, and, for a vegetarian option, with a rosemary risotto with a reduction of smoked cherries and parmesan foam.

Distinctive features

Demeter-certified since 2004, the Demeter logo appears on the label. Duemani remains a boutique estate with an annual production of 45,000 bottles. The Suisassi is considered perhaps Tuscany's finest Syrah.
