About this wine
Character
The Duemani 2020 is a single-varietal Cabernet Franc from Riparbella that combines power and freshness. Juicy fruit meets a noble tannic structure, and despite its richness the wine remains light and refined. 14.5% ABV, dry, with very good ageing potential.
Terroir and origin
The grapes come from the best plots of the Riparbella vineyard, which faces the Tyrrhenian Sea. The estate lies eight kilometres north of Bolgheri and the same distance from the coast, at an altitude of 250 to 300 metres, in an amphitheatre-shaped setting. Here, maritime influences meet a continental climate.
Grape variety and vinification
100% Cabernet Franc. Ageing follows biodynamic principles and begins in conical wooden vats, after which the wine matures in barriques. It is bottled without fining or filtration.
On the palate
On the nose, first sweet black cherries and blackberries, joined with air by dark chocolate, roasted chestnuts, teriyaki and café au lait. Above this, cool and stony notes of Kampot pepper, wild sage, eucalyptus and a hint of green bell pepper. On the palate juicy and slightly sweet, the invigorating acidity wrapped in saline minerality.
Food pairing suggestions
Risotto with salt-baked black truffle and a celery emulsion, braised Wagyu beef short rib with yuzu teriyaki, corn textures and miso potato mousseline, or saddle of venison with juniper berry jus, fir, blackberries and celery purée.
Special features
Elena Celli and Luca D'Attoma founded Duemani in 2000; the twelve hectares have been Demeter-certified since 2004, with the logo featured on the label. Annual production stands at 45,000 bottles. Since the acquisition by Le Tenute del Leone Alato in 2023, D'Attoma has remained involved as a consultant.
