About this wine
Character
A Syrah of dense fruit and silky texture, where power and playfulness hold each other in balance. In the glass, a deep dark cherry red, black at the core, with violet reflections towards the rim. The higher alcohol of 14.5% ABV does not stand out; the wine feels closed and complete.
Terroir and origin
The vines stand at the heart of the Duemani estate near Riparbella, on an extremely stony site near the lake. Elena Celli and Luca D'Attoma founded the estate in 2000, eight kilometres north of Bolgheri and an equal distance from the Tuscan coast, in an amphitheatre-like setting at 250 to 300 metres, where maritime influence meets a continental climate. The twelve hectares have been Demeter-certified since 2004.
Grape variety and vinification
100% Syrah. Maceration and fermentation last 15 to 18 months in tonneaux and barriques of French oak. The Suisassi was neither fined nor filtered.
On the palate
Fruit and density carry the wine: cassis and cassis liqueur, elderberry juice and blueberry compote. Equally intense is the balsamic spice of sage, rosemary, thyme and eucalyptus. Behind these, fine notes of tobacco and leather from the barrique ageing, woven into the juicy fullness of fruit.
Food pairings
Squab with orange-nougat hollandaise and walnut polenta, wild rabbit with porcini risotto and thyme, or, for a vegetarian option, salt-baked beetroot with linseed oil and raspberry vinegar.
Special features
Duemani is among Tuscany's early biodynamic pioneers and works without chemical substances; the cellar uses amphorae, cement and terracotta. Annual production stands at 45,000 bottles. Since the estate's acquisition by Le Tenute del Leone Alato in 2023, Luca D'Attoma has remained connected to it as a consultant. The label carries the Demeter logo.
