About this wine
Character
A Grenache that works through clarity rather than power. Cherry red with violet reflections, on the nose initially cherry, redcurrant and wild raspberry, then with air orange, orange zest, rose petals and ivy. A captivating bouquet full of finesse.
Terroir and origin
The vines stand at 350 metres above sea level on pure limestone and volcanic soil. Duemani is located near Riparbella, eight kilometres north of Bolgheri and the same distance from the Tuscan coast, in an amphitheatre-like position where maritime influence and continental climate meet. The estate has been Demeter-certified since 2004 and farms its twelve hectares biodynamically, without chemical substances.
Grape variety and vinification
100% Grenache from young vines. Fermentation and ageing take place in amphora, with a long, almost five-month skin contact; the wine finishes its ageing in oak barrel. It is neither fined nor filtered.
On the palate
Saline minerality, embedded in a sweetish, fine fruit. Precise, polished tannin provides the structure, lively acidity the drinking flow. The 15.0% ABV stands for substance, not heaviness.
Food pairings
With pan-fried calf's liver with a balsamic marinade on mashed potatoes. Vegetarian with beetroot glazed in cassis liqueur with parmesan shavings and wild herb salad or with spaghetti with blackberries, beans and walnut-parsley pesto.
Special features
Only a single barrel of this wine exists. Elena Celli and Luca D'Attoma founded Duemani in 2000; the estate's annual production is 45,000 bottles. Since the takeover by Le Tenute del Leone Alato in 2023, D'Attoma has accompanied the estate as a consultant. The label bears the Demeter logo.
