About this wine

Character

A Traminer that conveys the grape variety not through perfume, but through structure and spice. At 12.0% ABV, the wine remains light, dry, and vibrant; the fruit takes a back seat to herbs and tannins.

Terroir and Origin

Pamhagen is located at the geologically lowest point in Austria, in the flat steppe landscape surrounding Lake Neusiedl. Here, the Michlits family runs a Demeter-certified farm where viticulture, grain farming, and livestock breeding are intertwined: over 300 Angus cattle provide manure for the soils, while herbal preparations following Rudolf Steiner and cow horns buried in winter vitalise the soil life. Werner Michlits oversees the 30 hectares of vineyards.

Grape Variety and Vinification

Traminer, spontaneously fermented in an egg-shaped concrete vessel, whose shape enables natural circulation during fermentation. In the cellar, Werner Michlits works exclusively by gravity without pumps; the wines remain unfined and unsulphured.

On the Palate

Golden yellow and slightly cloudy, with amber highlights. On the nose, rose petals, ripe yellow fruit, and wild herbs, accompanied by a cool mineral spice. Dry and grippy, with a fine tannic bitterness on the finish and enduring freshness.

Food Pairings

Pairs well with pan-seared duck breast, boldly spiced pumpkin curry, and mature washed-rind cheese.

Special Features

Demeter-certified, with the logo displayed on the label. The cow on the label was designed by artist Nikolaus Eberstaller and represents the holistic farm cycle.
