About this wine
Character
An uncompromisingly dry Riesling that draws its impact from tension and drive rather than richness. At 12.5% vol. alcohol, it stays lean; what remains is a cool, saline core and a clarity built to last for years.
Terroir and origin
Battenfeld-Spanier farms sites in the Wonnegau and the Zellertal in Rheinhessen, where limestone soils set the tone. They give the Riesling a distinctive texture: taut, cool, and precisely saline.
Grape variety and vinification
A pure varietal Riesling. The estate has farmed biodynamically since 2005, regularly applying preparations 500 and 501, with lunar cycles guiding the rhythm of work in the vineyard. Fermentation happens spontaneously, ageing takes place in large wooden casks and steel tanks. Sulphur use stays minimal, and no fining agents are used. The cellar accompanies the wine rather than correcting it.
On the palate
Green apple and vineyard peach, alongside lemon zest. The wine stays linear and cool, its saline drive carrying well beyond the sip without ever turning broad.
Food pairings
Pairs well with pan-fried pikeperch, scallops, and veal carpaccio, as well as poultry in a light sauce.
Special features
A Grosses Gewächs from biodynamic farming, grown on the limestone soils that give the estate's style its cool signature.
