About this wine
Character
A Syrah with weight: 14.0% vol., dry, with the fruit concentration and richness that Duemani has stood for since its founding in 2000 by Elena Celli and Luca D'Attoma. The fruit is never on its own here — a spicy, almost saline tension runs through the entire wine.
Terroir and origin
The estate's twelve hectares lie near Riparbella, eight kilometres north of Bolgheri and just as far from the Tuscan coast. The amphitheatre-shaped site at 250 to 300 metres above sea level brings together maritime influence and continental climate: warm ripening, together with the coolness that gives the wine its contour.
Grape variety and vinification
A single-varietal Syrah from biodynamic farming, Demeter-certified since 2004 and grown without chemical substances in the vineyard. In the cellar, amphorae, cement and terracotta are used; the wines are neither fined nor filtered, which gives the estate's wines their stability and longevity. Minimal intervention as a principle, not a gesture.
On the palate
Dark berry fruit, blackberry and blueberry, along with black pepper, violet and the herbal note of olive and Mediterranean herbs. In the background, plum compote and a smoky trait. The tannins are silky and carry far, the finish stays spicy and mineral.
Food recommendations
With roast lamb with a herb crust and braised lamb shoulder with rosemary, with Tuscan cinghiale, that is, wild boar ragout, and with wild boar salami. Also with bistecca alla Fiorentina, a rustic ribollita, and with aged pecorino.
Special features
Duemani is among Tuscany's early biodynamic pioneers. Annual production stands at 45,000 bottles. Since the estate was taken over by Le Tenute del Leone Alato in 2023, Luca D'Attoma has remained connected to it as a consultant.
