About this wine
Character
Power and density define this red wine from the Costa Toscana, without ever feeling heavy. Vibrant acidity and saline minerality keep the 14.5% ABV in check, and the ageing potential is considerable.
Terroir and origin
Duemani is located near Riparbella, eight kilometres from the Tuscan coast. The amphitheatre-shaped site, at 250 to 300 metres above sea level, combines maritime influences with a continental climate. Elena Celli and Luca D'Attoma founded the estate in 2000; the twelve hectares are farmed without chemical substances.
Grape variety and vinification
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, with grapes sourced from the biodynamic vineyards of Duemani and Prima Pietra. Fermentation takes place in cement tanks, ageing in French oak barriques. The wine is neither fined nor filtered.
On the palate
The nose shows the vintage at maturity: dark blackberries, black cherries, sloe, mulberries and blackcurrants, along with dark chocolate, tobacco, wood smoke, liquorice and leather. Toasted rosemary, thyme, juniper and black pepper follow. Dense and concentrated on the tongue, with polished tannin, vibrant acidity and a long, saline finish.
Food pairings
Hare with sauce rouennaise, pickled berries and truffled salsify, warm smoked pigeon with beetroot and Brussels sprouts, mashed potatoes and toasted walnuts, or vegetarian liquorice gnocchi with orange segments.
Special features
Duemani has been Demeter-certified since 2004, and the logo appears on the label. The cellar uses cement, amphora and terracotta. Annual production stands at 45,000 bottles; since 2023 the estate has been part of Le Tenute del Leone Alato, with Luca D'Attoma serving as consultant.
